BG/H/W Thanksgiving Tournament

We anticipate 4 levels (Varsity 1, Varsity 2, Junior Varsity 1, & Junior Varsity 2).

Levels will bet determined by teams as the registered and then the tournament directors will make final decisions based on the number of teams registered in each division.

The tournament will run from Friday, November 27 to Sunday, November 29.

We have secured ice at Orbit Ice Arena in Palatine and Triphahan Community Center in Hoffman Estates

Three 15 minute stop time periods for Varsity with an ice cut after the second period and before each game.

Three 14 minute stop time periods for Junior Varsity with an ice cut before each game.

There will be a 5 minute warm up for all games.

All USA Hockey Rules shall prevail unless noted otherwise.

Running time: Running time will be utilized during Round Robin play for games in which the goal differential is 5 goals or more, regardless of the period and until the goal differential is 3. During the semifinals and championship running time will only occur during the 3rd period.

Timeouts: Each team will be allowed 1 timeout per game.

Overtime and Shootouts:

In the round robin there will be a 5 minute 3v3 overtime (goals switch ends). If still tied, a 1 player sudden death shootout will occur. Every skater must have 1 attempt before someone can go a second time. A player serving a penalty is not eligible to shoot.

In the semifinals and championship, the first OT will be 4v4 sudden death. Every additional OT will be 3v3 sudden death. Each OT period will be 10 minutes in length and goalies will switch ends.

Regulation win: 3 points

OT/SO win: 2 points

OT/SO loss: 1 point

Regulation loss: 0 points

Division standings will be determined by the total points. In case of ties/wild cards, order will be determined as follows:

a. Head to Head among tied teams

b. Most wins (regulation & OT/SO)

c. Fewest goals allowed

d. Fewest goals against

e. Fewest penalty minutes

f. If still tied, a coin flip by the tournament committee will determine the team advancing.

If there are three or more teams tied with points and multiple teams advance, after the first team is determined, the tiebreakers will reset and start again with (a. head to head)

No protests will be allowed. All decisions by the tournament committee will be final.

Neither BG/H/W or the rinks will provide any medical insurance or on-site trainers/medical staff.

No gate fees will be collected during the tournament.
