Spring and Summer Programs

Spring (3/9 - 5/26)

Teams will practice Tuesdays or Thursdays at West Meadows. There will be 8 practices. 4 will focus on small area games, battle drills, and team skills. 3 will be position “clinics,” and 1 will be a scrimmage. Each team will play 8 games vs. other area high school teams. Most games will take place at West Meadows on Saturday or Sundays evenings.

Spring hockey is way more relaxed and low pressure than Fall. For our new players and families, it is a great opportunity to meet the coaches, teammates, and other parents. For our returning families, it is way more laid back and gives opportunities for players to play up or work on skills they didn’t get to during the regular season.

Summer Conditioning/Pre-Tryouts & Tryouts (7/29-8/29)

Tryouts will be held on 8/20 & 8/22. Prior to tryouts we will be on the ice twice per week to work on individual skills, conditioning, small area games, battle drills, and team skills.

June and July (6/1 – 7/28)

Players should take this time to have fun and spend time with friends and family. BG/H/W will not be having any organized activities during this time. If you insist on being on the ice, there a few opportunities we recommend. These will be posted on our website and shared via email.

Varsity Wins 2nd Annual Great Lakes Kickoff Classic!!! Johnny Gatta MVP!!!

What a great start to the season! BGHW Varsity went up to Kalamazoo, MI from 10/6/23 - 10/8/23, and took on some of the top High School and U18AA teams from Michigan and Indiana.

Missing the football players for the Friday night tilt against 2023 Indiana 4A State Runner Ups, Fort Wayne Carroll High School, BGHW came out with a 4-1 victory! Elliott Drazin, in his first game this season, coming off an injury, had 2 goals and an assist to lead the team!

On Saturday morning, Varsity played a physical Little Caesars U18AA team. Little Caesars went up 2-0 in the first period before BGHW woke up and scored 6 unanswered goals. Logan Peterson lead the team with 2 goals and an assist, while Daniell Luska scored his first career varsity goal in the 7-3 victory!

Saturday afternoon, the boys had already clinched a birth in the semifinals and came out flat. Johnny Gatta scored the only goal on a nice pass from Logan Peterson in a 4-1 loss to the host team, Southwest Michigan Blades.

The next morning, in the very early semifinal game vs. Penn High School (IN), BGHW dominated much of the game, but couldn't get much past the Penn goalie. Eventually Logan Peterson and Johnathan Thompson scored big goals to secure the 2-1 win and a spot in the Championship.

In the Championship, BGHW had a rematch with the only team that beat them in the tournament, Southwest Michigan Blades! The Blades went up 1-0, and then Johnny Gatta tied it up in the 2nd. The team went into the locker room tied 1-1 going into the third period and Sam Levin gave an inspirational speech.  After going down 2-1, Noah Loch scored a huge goal half way through the third period and Johnny Gatta scored 2 more to put the game away!

Great goaltending by Luke Fanella and Adam Krzyzanowski, stellar defense by all of defenders and timely offense by several players helped lead BGHW to its first tournament championship of the season! Johnny Gatta was named tournament MVP after his hat trick in the Championship!

ALUMNI GAME!!!!

Link to the photos

The 2021 Alumni game was a huge success! Thank you to the 30+ alumni that were there. It was great seeing you on the ice and catching up with you. Hopefully we'll see everyone back next year and a few more that were unable to make it this time.

Charity Skate was a HUGE success!!!

The Veterans Shelter reached out to offer their gratitude and appreciation for being chosen by BGHW Stampede for the charity skate. They found the donation to be especially meaningful during this Thanksgiving season. The donation of $3,700 will support housing and job programs for veterans in northern Illinois. The hundreds of donation items will stock their outreach van and Freedom Commissary for the winter season. A shirt and basket of Stewart’s Stampede Coffee was also donated to the staff at the shelter.
Big thanks to all the players and families that contributed their time to make it happen.

Congratulations to the Loch family on the Blackhawk tickets raffle!
